I've heard/read one suggestion that's about as simple as it gets: Leave your phone at home and get a burner phone in the US. No fuss, no muss, no information either.

In the longer term, the real game plan is to have a tool to silence dissidents. Someone makes false claims of copyright infringement, and their opponent's rights to speak is immediately taken down without due process. This means the mere accusation of copyright infringement can be used to silence people.
So if something political in the news comes up and the foreign press is making someone look bad, they can make a false claim, get their website blocked, and by the time it goes through court, it is no longer in the news cycle, and people aren't paying attention anymore. A nice little tool to manipulate the masses.

It's how the bankers skim off the GDP of a country.
This is why they didn't want Trump in the White House. He will actually enforce the Constitution.
It's a battle for your data. The corporations vs. governments. But it's not like either of them are really on your side. They both want your data, and they just don't want the other to have it.
@Michael Halligan Most people aren't like that. Most people aren't even religious. If they go to church it's because they want to look good for their family and community and perhaps to socialize with people. Very few people are true believers, and even the Bible says "thou shalt not kill." So I am not sure where you are getting these ideas from. They certainty aren't accurate.
