Retrospektiven

I understand the pros and cons of search, and I get how this might lead to preferring either opt-in or opt-out. I never understood why people argue that it’s universally a bad thing to have though https://mastodon.art/@Curator/110860346373127726

'"Our analysis shows that 52 percent of ChatGPT answers are incorrect and 77 percent are verbose," the team's paper concluded. "Nonetheless, ChatGPT answers are still preferred 39.34 percent of the time due to their comprehensiveness and well-articulated language style." Among the set of preferred ChatGPT answers, 77 percent were wrong.'

Me: Why does “fridge” have a “d” in it, but refrigerator doesn’t?

Interviewer: I meant questions about the job.

Me: Oh, no, I’m good then.

Turns out love was a zero interest rate phenomenon

Very few of my tweets ever hit anywhere close to "escape velocity" (the scary thing where a tweet goes outside friendly circles)... but this one did see some interest and was quoted by some lovely people at conferences and even maybe a book or two:

Architectural design is system design. System design is contextual design — it is inherently about boundaries (what’s in, what’s out, what spans, what moves between), and about tradeoffs. It reshapes what is outside, just as it shapes what is inside.

"What's the lesson here, guys?"
"We don’t know.”
"C’mon, think about it."
"Don't be assholes?"
"Don’t be assholes. Especially to…”
"To the guy with the thumbs?"
"To the guy with the thumbs."
