@timkmak Tim, your work in difficult conditions is superb!

This may not fit traditional format, but I'd love to see some analytical data re: Ukrainians' opinions - you work super hard to collect info that doesn't make it into the story.

@dsilverman @briankrebs How would the app behave if the recipient's iPhone is at the bottom of a canal? (genuine question, I've never had an iphone.)
@petecasellini hi pete 👋
@_astronoMay happened one year when we did the "direct mailing" option, didn't even discover the error until we received it! 😱

@notyoursweetbab Thanks, I think I eventually found the "about this server" link in the fine print.

https://mastodon.online/about/more

Honestly, I have no idea how moderation here will be better or simpler than on Twitter:

1. The "rules" (of this server) are high level principles subject to broad interpretation. E.g., what qualifies as "sexism" or "racism" in our complex society?

2. Most people won't even be able to understand what a "server" is.

3. Who are the server admins accountable to?

A newer server operated by the Mastodon gGmbH non-profit

Mastodon hosted on mastodon.online

So, how do I find out who the moderators of a particular server are, and what their policies are? What does "active moderation" mean?

Right now this feels like early newsgroups where folks are generally on good behavior. What happens when the there are disagreements of judgement for appropriate content?

@typhoon Agreed, as I was searching for a few things, it seems like it's really difficult or impossible to sort out which accounts are "real." How do we solve this problem across servers? @Gargron
Where are all the ads and promoted posts???

@Gargron @Claire Thanks for accommodating us newcomers!

Maybe I'm missing the bigger picture, but the need to select a specific community when signing up introduced friction to my onboarding... I get that the whole concept is federated accounts, but even understanding the principle I almost gave up after browsing through a few dozen options.
