It now seems more likely than not that Musk is on a mission to destroy Twitter for political and power reasons.

Twitter was a place for liberal discourse, a pro-democratic square.

Billionaires don't like democracy. Democracies have rule of law, and pro-worker protections, and oversight from elected representatives. Billionaires like Musk want oligarchy they can co-opt with money.

Here's some evidence Musk wants to rip down Twitter to boost the rightwing agenda: 1/4

As it's #SmallBusinessSaturday allow me to toot my own horn (see what I did there)...

My small UK-based shop offers products of my art practice: artworks, limited editions, art supplies and my own books (and ebooks). All is made by me, by hand where applicable, and I pack everything plastic-free or in reusable containers.

Yannis Hamilakis on the fiasco that is the "repatriation" deal of Cycladic art from the Stern collection, of dubious provenance, mediated by an obscure Delaware entity (!), and ratified by the Greek state against its own laws.
Sorry, But This Is Not “Repatriation”

The Met's deal with the Greek government to "repatriate" billionaire Leonard Stern's Cycladic art collection is not what it seems.

Still not 100% sure how all this works….

I'm still unsure if it's cool to share this sort of thing here (so shout me down if I'm out of place), but there's a new episode of my podcast, Drafting the Past, out today. Drafting the Past is all about the craft of #writing #history, and this week I had a great time talking with #environmentalhistorian @AdamMSowards about his work. You can find the ep here: https://traffic.libsyn.com/draftingthepast/dtp_sowards.mp3 or on your preferred podcast source.

I hope you’re following the work David Wengrow and team are doing on the ancient Ukrainian city of Nebelivka. Fully the size of medieval London by *3200BC*, comprised “of self-governing districts…with assemblies for decision making,” Nebelivka is forcing us to rewrite the history of cities, and to question especially the standard narrative of primordial state formation. The state just isn’t as central to our experience as we were taught it was. #anarchism #municipalism #urbanism #archaeology
