an experiment ends

OK, about to blast this machine to smithereens.

I look unrelatedly forward to a Dune-like Scattering, which I hope will happen. The hegemony of software needs to end.

Odd that by chance one chapter of my life closes as another begins. This year has been me discovering what I care about, what I'm willing to do, what I want to do, and how much I can put up with from other people. (the threshold for the latter is fairly low).

I haven't had a paying job for the last few months. I've gotten fitter, started going to bed early, started cooking more, focused on my prose writing, and learn to let go of others' hypocricy. I found my center. Grateful for unemployment.

Ummm actually it's pronounce gee-peg everyone knows that I don't care what the creator says.

> What happens is when we communicate without empathy we end up triggering people's threat response. And when people feel threatened they shut down and you're not going to have a productive conversation. So if you're able to communicate with empathy it actually ends up being more efficient for communication. - April Wensel

I'm a queer dev who's had a bad experience on Mastodon. I'm shutting down this instance soon.

I've come to dread getting a popular tech post. I think it has to do with getting mansplained at *a lot* by techies. Some techies don't mansplain at all, which, ty, but most of the mansplainers I've dealt with here were either techies or anarcho-libertarians.

The design of a platform shapes the community formed on it.

To all my kind or supportive friends, you made it worthwhile.

Mastodon is a piece of software, not a network. The federated network itself still needs a good brand so we can talk about it without saying all the things that make it up, or using the names of the underlying protocols.
I got a job. It's less than a mile from me and after training it will be 30-35 hours a week. That means I'll be able to focus on doing some OSS as well as my novel(s). I think this is going to be a great thing.
Subposting myself, Emotions are important, but they are better shared in some contexts more than others.
Also can I just point out the irony of railing against JS-only applications while using Mastodon?
