A friend and I went to see Grease the play at a theater in Faro. The dialogue was all spoken in Portuguese, but the songs were in English. It was positively delightful!

2026 is going to be a fun year. January has been chilly and rainy here in the Algarve, but here are a few highlights so far.

I spent a couple of days in Mértola, an hour north of me. Saw a little waterfall, a castle, and a super cute river town.

@SQLAllFather That’s funny. I actually do own 3 canning rubbers. 😆 Now that I’m learning to cook for the first time in my entire life…I actually like it. I’ll never be anywhere near your level, but I’m learning. A couple nights ago I made Mediterranean Sheet Pan Gnocci. It had gnocchi, lentils, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, onions, carrots, and sweet potatoes.

@SQLAllFather A funny event… I went to the pharmacy & asked for vitamin C. (Most everything is behind the counter here.) I specified I wanted pill form but I accidentally used the Portuguese term that’s intended to mean “the pill” 😆😆. But guess what? After a good laugh & a wee bit of embarrassment, I won’t forget the correct word now.

@SQLAllFather I’m totally stealing that as my new motto as I learn Portuguese! 😆 (I’m finally back to doing some real learning with a class or online session 4 times a week now…giving me lots of opportunities to suck at it LOL.)

@SQLAllFather Oh I remember that problem. Now…since my green space is maintained by the city…I get excited when I see them out mowing. Because I wish it was just a little more often than it is.
