@DistrictCon And it goes without saying; DistrictCon stands on the backs of giants like Shmoocon and BSidesDC that have served the DC area for years. We're excited to create even more gathering spaces for this community.
@DistrictCon Gathering places like conferences are where some of the best learning and networking in cyber take place. Outside my day job, it's been a sincere joy to help stand up this con and volunteer with a wonderful group of people.

Tucked into the Senate's intelligence community funding bill: Mark Warner and Susan Collins' bill codifying the Election Assistance Commission's penetration testing of voting equipment and creating a vulnerability disclosure pilot program for election technology.

My story: https://www.wired.com/story/a-senate-bill-would-radically-improve-voting-machine-security/

A Senate Bill Would Radically Improve Voting Machine Security

This year’s Intelligence Authorization Act would mandate penetration testing for federally certified voting machines and allow independent researchers to work on exposing vulnerabilities.

Hacker Summer Camp Donation Form

Women in Security and Privacy (WISP)’s Hacker Summer Camp scholarship aims to increase representation in the cybersecurity field by providing opportunities for women and underrepresented folks to attend conferences, including BlackHat, DEF CON, Diana Initiative, and SquadCon some of the best hacking conferences in the world. By offering scholarships, WISP ensures that talented individuals who might not otherwise have the means to attend can access the valuable networking and career development opportunities that these conferences provide. This initiative not only supports individual scholars but also contributes to fostering a more inclusive and diverse cybersecurity community, ultimately strengthening the industry as a whole. Each WISP scholar receives a scholarship when they arrive in person at their conference to reimburse their travel expenses, hotel, meals, and conference pass. Donate $1,000 to send 1 scholar to Hacker Summer Camp -- our goal is to raise at least $25,000! Your donation empowers talent, fosters diversity, and enriches the community. Join us in shaping a more inclusive future!

The EPA said recent inspections of water systems found more than 70 percent fail to meet basic cybersecurity standards

Some rely on default passwords that haven’t been updated and single logins that “can easily be compromised”
