I have been on Mastodon since 2017. I would love to see it “take off”, but I am not optimistic. Left and right wing political hacks run many of the instances, and the minute they see a “toot” they don’t like, they block the instance of origination. Thus, you wind up in isolated echo chambers based on politics.
To reach the masses you have to have accounts on left wing and right wing servers, which involves too much time and effort. You can disagree with someone and not hate/block them, you know
