I used to see Something Else. In the distance. On the horizon. We never spoke. I would look for them every day and they would always be there. One day they just weren’t.

Those things that you saw out of the corner of your eye that you dismissed as nothing when you turned your head. That shadow that you thought moved, but probably didn’t. Suddenly you turn your head and they’re still there.
I remember... in the summer is was so hot that I had to sleep on the porch. The cicadas screeched like murder victims and kept me up all night.
We all have monsters and shadows in our lives. Sometimes it’s Something lurking under the bed, sometimes it’s ᶜʳᶦᵖᵖˡᶦⁿᵍ ᵈᵉᵖʳᵉˢˢᶦᵒⁿ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵃⁿˣᶦᵉᵗʸ. Both of them are very real.
Across the center of the lake there’s a bridge. I crossed it years ago. Since then it has been closed for safety. You can still cross it though if ˢᵒᵐᵉᵗʰᶦⁿᵍ ˢʰᵒʷˢ ʸᵒᵘ ᵗʰᵉ ʷᵃʸ
