Sad thing about the cat waking up and leaving the chair is now you have no excuse not to write
Was a lonely champion of Mike White’s Enlightened, whereas season 1 of White Lotus left me annoyed & even angry by its end. And yet season 2 episode 5 of White Lotus is one of the most wonderful works of tv acting & writing I’ve ever seen.
Remember a few years ago overhearing in a restaurant some people in publishing discussing how many followers on social media a potential author had as much as their manuscript and yeah, we all just made this part of our unpaid work, I know that’s part of why it’s so hard to quit a site gone to hell.
Don’t think we really reckoned with how we all became so dependent on a single site for promotion of our work because the companies that produce & distribute it have become so bad at it.

That's really my takeaway on all of this.

Journalists and antifascists got too good at what we were doing, especially accountability and deplatforming.

Thiel in particular figured this out and set out to destroy journalistic and then antifascist platforms and community.

I have mentioned before but this is for you if you’re trying to find your people from Twitter https://www.movetodon.org/ (anecdotally I have suddenly found WAY MORE folks I follow as of today)

Rest in Peace to composer Angelo Badalamenti here telling the beautiful story of how he and David Lynch created the theme for Twin Peaks. His sound is in everything everywhere now, I believe it’s the end of an era of sound with him gone. https://youtu.be/e-eqgr_gn4k

Ectoplasm a reference to how in earliest days of medium of photography spiritualists used it to ‘prove’ communication with the dead was all around us. And maybe that’s inherent in all new recorded mediums? Photo of medium Eva C. By Albert von Shrenck-Notzing. 1912.
Slowly reassembling my ectoplasm over here good to see so many familiar people and forgive me as I slowly find a bunch of you all over again.
