This paper examines the potential shift in the competitive balance between democracies and autocracies in the context of advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and artificial general intelligence (AGI). Historically, democracies have held a competitive edge due to free information flow and a creative labor market. However, the advent of sophisticated AI technologies might alter this landscape, enabling autocracies to potentially match or even surpass the economic efficiency and standard of living typically associated with democratic governance.
