@siracusa Your long discussion about the Patreon situation was interesting. I’m afraid that the “why?” is because in Cook’s Apple, they care about hardware sales, services revenue, and “customer sat”. If those are their metrics, it doesn’t seem to me that dev grousing about App Store policies and rent-seeking does not have any real impact on those numbers.
@gruber You are looking good in the Vision Pro tile on apple.com!
If you really want to know Trump's thoughts on abortion, you need to ask how many he's paid for.

It’s the Guns, It’s the Guns, It’s the Guns

Make them all say, as Trump himself did after a school shooting massacre in Iowa this year, that we “have to get over it, we have to move forward.”

If it were up to me, Apple would create the world’s first “Do Not Train” registry. Enter your domain or web page, get a TXT record or meta tag to prove ownership, prevent Apple from using your content to train any LLM.

Only a small percentage of sites would do it, I think, so the training impact would be low, but it’d be extremely meaningful for those people. And it’d be a valuable PR tool, brand-booster, and competitor-shamer. (Bonus: make it open and encourage competitors to follow it.)

I feel like we can all just say “price” instead of “price point”. And “design” instead of “form factor”. Thank you 🙏
When you can understand why there weren't mass arrests of the proud boys, or mass arrests at Jan 6, but there were mass arrests at BLM protests, and there are mass arrests on college campuses... you'll be one step closer to understanding free speech in America.
bad idea: A mouse cursor that's not just a simple floating pointer, it's a cat/dog paw... but it stretches all the way to an edge of the screen like it's a really long leg

my biggest complaint about AI is we didn’t ask for it. zero popular movements took to the streets to demand AI. no one sat around kitchen tables lamenting how hard life is without AI.

what people want is health care, housing, climate change solutions, etc We sit around kitchen tables wondering how to pay for college, get loved ones the psych and addiction support they need, or help the people on our streets who need homes

“Bluesky could be the future of content moderation”.

I 100% disagree.

Yes, the protocol offers a plethora of ways to filter content and ensure you never come across, say, Nazis.

But that’s not what content moderation is. Content moderation is making decisions. It is either welcoming or refusing certain types of content on your platform.

If you’re letting everyone in, and telling your users "but you have control!", you’re not moderating anything. You’re just quitting.
