introduced myself to a local filmmaker tonight with whom I had recent email correspondence. I was delighted that he had evidently googled me because he said "and you're the one who's into... [miming operating a gamepad], right?"
@clayote wish I could remember what they were, but early Kill Screen (on the web) had several reviews that experimented with the format. or at least used some css/js gimmicks. one of them had a word repeated in the margins of the page and it faded out at one point of the text, but I forget the context. maybe not the "best" videogame review but it does make me miss the Web 2.0 aspirations of the New Games Journalism era.
@coleoptera told my partner about this and they said they've been to Sexy Coffee once and the coffee was really bad: "don't bother rebuilding it"
thanks to this i found out about a "secret" screening of a surprise film that is clearly a jerry lewis one but they don't want to say that lol
this is a neat curated page of upcoming movie screenings in naarm - includes both bigger and smaller venues like little film clubs https://ktcalendar.com/

it's so funny when the tram driver is all of a sudden like "allllright, eeeeverybody out!" and leaves you and a dozen other people helplessly standing around on the street not at your destination

it's a shame we have no lens to talk about all the non-genre Australian movies today!!! Stratton tries his best to advocate for "Australian New Wave" as a way to engage with this stuff but it seems to have languished in the realm of what I call "Wikipedia knowledge." embalmed in an infobox.

Unfortunately we make do with "Ozploitation" which is such a stupid and embarrassing term to retrospectively frame much of this work, drawing out only its worst aspects.

incredible how Stratton writes about these movies contemporaneously, floating on top of the critical consensus like oil on water

like one critic he quotes complains of a movie "The narrative is simply a series of incidents" like yeah man that's exactly why 70s movies are so good

@candle 🚨 it happened!
