On the topic of Apple video podcast, I'll go out on a limb and say - Apple has no chance of competing with YouTube.
YouTube's entire ethos revolves around making Creators successful. By that I don't mean they are invested in making every creator successful, but they deeply understand that YouTube's success depends on creators' success taken as a whole. This is super obvious to anybody who has interacted and followed YouTube.
Apple, OTOH, as you all know are the corporate embodiment of a rent extracting landlord. Why would top creators go to this trouble when they already have the top Video serving platform in the world giving them everything they want? And Apple gives ... some additional users in exchange for what exactly? So the reason this will fail is Creators will be unlikely to move unless Apple actually steps up to provide some tangible and ongoing value to Creators.
But the threat of YT to apps like Overcast is real. I'm an Android user, but I'm constantly looking to switch from Pocketcasts. My top reasons:
1. YT makes it easier to share a deep link to segments with friends
2. I want to (*sometimes*) see who is speaking. Even on some podcasts I listen to often, I can't recognise the hosts by voice. Example: the All-in podcast.
3. The comments section of YouTube is actually surprisingly good... .this is impressive all by itself in 2026
For the first time I found an ATP Believe t-shirt "in the wild". It was at my kid's cub scout camp this weekend. Another scout's father (who I have now known casually for years) was wearing it. When I brought this up, he gingerly asked if I listened to ATP and some other questions followed. At the end of this prolonged interrogation he revealed he was your brother ,😄😄 Nice guy!
As I am sure (hope) many people are going to point out, Google has been working on confidential compute for a long long time. It is quite absurd to say Google took Apple's private cloud compute (announced in 2024) and copied it. Here is a general post from 2021 I found with a casual search (I know this specific tech may or may not be at play with th Gemini+Siri stack... but this hopefully serves to counter some broad brush random comments you made about Google's commitments in general)

The screen you saw, I assume, was something like the attached screenshot. Firstly (and most importantly) as mentioned in the highlighted section your details are not saved to your account, aka "not persisted".
So why does this exist at all? You folks touched on the core issue - abuse. Free Google Accounts are often created at scale to create nuisance, and more. Trust me, I/we pine as much for the simplicity of the good old days as you folks. But some things are just gone forever.
Finally, as a parent of a 10 yr old myself, I strongly encourage you to create a child account, which gives you some supervision and parental controls. You are anyway using a fake date of birth for that user; why don't you just make it a "Fake but Minor" DOB instead? Trust me it is worth the little extra hassle.
