Converts coffee into infrastructure. Propping up internet services in the silly valley since the previous century. Generalist linux beard. Possibly jaded. You can hire me. Internet operations, security, practices and processes, linux, doors and corners.

@lilithsaintcrow This was a great story, thanks!

@alexlunaview @Remittancegirl This is not true. No decision has been made. Please don’t post disinfo.

Going to mute you now. Don’t need any more deliberate lies in my timeline.

@draeath @petergleick My understanding is that it’s been a space engineering expression for at least 50 years. Like lithobraking maneuver in aviation since at least WW2. It’s classic nerd humor parodying the stilted military and government language in incident reports and such.

(It’s also typical of Musk to have glommed onto the funny expression to make himself sound like one of the cool nerds, and overusing it.)

@onyxraven @kim @ai6yr So if you use these in the US at least, you can be sure that information of all your purchases gets added to your file at the all the data brokers. Your diet and alcohol consumption etc will be analyzed by your friendly health insurance company’s “AI”.

If not today then in a year or two.

@debcha @ianb Damn right. Then I moved to the US just before the start of The American Century (remember that thing?).

I really don't get why people always push these renamed Firefoxes when someone complains about Mozilla. They are just someone's vanity projects, leeching on the work done by the Firefox project.

It's just the same browser. It is compiled from the same source tree (yay open source) by someone who did a search and replace of Firefox branding (because they make it easy!). Possibly they also remove some functionality. Or added some other functionality (maybe not to your advantage).

You also step outside the guard rails of a big project with many eyes on it. It would be hard to insert malicious code into the original Firefox, less so to some random guy's version of it.

Your fancy "I'm a Rebel Who Does Not Use This Corporate Browser" browser is still 100% dependent on Mozilla's work.

I hate what Mozilla is doing with this mindless me-too AI crap, but alternate branding is not the answer. You can still install this add-on in any alt-Firefox, so what is the point.

@jasongorman @IntentionallyBLANK This.
Going through the motion at scale. Going through the motions as a service.

@liw Got the tsunami warning, now contemplating driving uphill.

Hmm, sirens.

@futurebird @cmconseils This gives me some ideas for the next time I’ll have cats. I’m already planning for some ductwork and wall shelving. A perch for head swatting at the doorway. Bird observation deck. Now I’m thinking of a laser tag arcade for cats and how that would work.
@futurebird This is still a proud journalistic tradition in some places. A couple of decades ago Finland was gripped by tales of a lion in a rural province for a whole summer.
