I'm really happy with this ballpoint pen drawing of oak moss lichen I made with a robot pen plotter. It's based on a photo I took on the Taynish peninsula, and is made of around 3 million lines and over a mile of ink in 6 layers with different weights attached to a standard Bic pen. It took three days to draw. It's available now here:

Another Bic ballpoint robot drawing, this time of sea ivory lichen, based on a photo I took in the Hebrides. 3 million lines, a mile of ink, over 2 days. I like the ambiguity of using the trusty Bic this way. Is it a drawing or a photo? Available here:

Simon KirbyI made a new robot drawing solely using Bic ballpoints. 5 million lines and a mile of ink based on a photo I took of Bass Rock from a boat. There’s something uncanny about the nostalgic familiarity of the Bic ink rendering a digital photo like this.

@RobGMacfarlane’s wonderful adaptation of Susan Cooper’s eerie novel starts tonight, as the book does, on midwinter’s eve. I read and reread this book many winters growing up.

BBCOn reflection, big tech companies churning through the entirity of prior human cultural output whilst burning thousands of megawatts of electricity to automate the creation of fluent bullshit that’s optimised for believability but not truthfulness… it couldn’t be more on message for humanity in the 21st century.
now ChatGPT seems really impressive and all but you have to remember that you can be tricked into thinking a rock has feelings by drawing a cute face on it
