Like, here. I'll throw one out.

Vue made me fall in love with frontend dev again for the first time in a decade. It made my work of building data-driven content a thousand times easier than the same shit with JS/jQuery, and thus has *huge* impact on the quality of what I can build as one dev.

But there's no one to yell at in that story, no imagined "techbro" with horrible decisions to feel superior to.

If all we hear is the bad stuff, it's no wonder we're so fucking miserable all the time.

I feel like the most poorly received take on Mastodon these days would be someone saying that they find (new language/framework/piece of technology popularized in the last 10 years) to totally meet their needs and make their lives easier

There is a huge tendency to throw the baby out with the bathwater in terms of the "everything new is terrible" sentiment being applied to things that honestly aren't

My "I'm not a furry, I swear" roomie wanted to do an overnight trip to TFF, so he dragged me along, and I just feel like such an outlier. The crowds are huge and scary. Big lines everywhere. It's some 9,000 people, and like me and 5 other folks are holding down the fort wearing N95s. Nobody else is, and...I just really struggle. I don't know that it's possible for me to do cons anymore in a way I consider safe enough for me. :(
Americans keep waiting for fascism to show up at our doorstep in the form of neatly pressed Hugo Boss suits and jackbooted thugs marching in lock-step down city streets, and while we already have that too, we can't forget that often fascism comes in the form of a cishet white woman from Alabama with a cross necklace making this face at you as she breathlessly explains why you and everyone you know should accept your new life as second-class citizens

I tried speaking up about Rezillo Ryker once on Twitter. I made a thread compiling the mountain of evidence that showed this guy wants queer folks *gone*.

For it, I got death threats, banned from Twitch streams and ostracized from communities for being a "woke SJW".

I got more punishment for one Tweet than the guy did for a decade of aggressive bigotry.

That's the "good vibes at all costs" Furry culture for ya right there. Fucking disaster.

There are a troubling many examples of this happening, but one I keep seeing is Rezillo Ryker, the creator of the Rexouium avatar and a person who literally had four years of YouTube videos titled things like "Gays are an abomination against God". His Tweets have been rampantly homo/trans-phobic, and he even asked that his Discords be LGBTQ+-content free.

But hey...he's the kind of guy you'd have a beer with, so who cares about all that, right?

I'm so beyond fucking tired of the way some Twitch/VRChat Furries will go out of their way to stay cozied up to influential people who have long, consistent, troubling track records of outright homophobia and transphobia, then defend it to the very same LGBTQ+ people who are victimized by that rhetoric by saying "well, honestly he's a really nice guy once you get to know him".

I don't want to get to know him. He wants me and my friends wiped off the Earth.

Another one bites the enshittified dust: Planetscale wants to "be around forever" so they're laying off a bunch of staff and killing their free tier: https://planetscale.com/blog/planetscale-forever

Because when you're a business critter, the developer goodwill of supporting their little hobby projects is worth absolutely $0 to you when all you're thinking of is making number go up in the immediate term

Furry Weekend Atlanta just posted a message announcing the passing of a member of the community, Kiri: https://bsky.app/profile/furryweekend.com/post/3kn2odd3ric2z

She developed an infection while attending NFC and due to her immunocompromised state, it quickly worsened until she unfortunately passed away this week.

It's a tragic reminder of how fragile life is, especially for folks who are immunocompromised. We should be doing everything in our power to care for and protect the most vulnerable.

tbh as an Austinite I never once heard a good thing about Rooster Teeth's internal company culture, it seemed as though it had a widespread reputation of being a company with no idea how to be a company, who had success fall into the laps of otherwise unqualified shitposter bros who couldn't handle it and whose egos got wildly out of hand in the process

So...if that's accurate, well, good riddance
