Hello, Canadians of Lemmy! Down in the USA there is a lot of conflicting information regarding the efficacy of y’alls healthcare systems. Without revealing my personal bias, I was hoping for some anecdotes or summaries from those whom actually live there.

Going Without Trash Bags - sh.itjust.works

I recently stopped using trash bags so that I am, officially, a plastic bag free household. Whatever can’t be composted or recyled goes directly into my trash can’s removeable hard plastic insert. I put a little of my cats litter (it’s just ground up walnut shells) in the bottom to keep down the smell and absorb any rogue liquids. It’s gone considerably better than I’ve anticipated so far. Has anyone else tried eliminating trash bags? If so, how has your experience been?

I don't understand the whole Twitter/Mastodon social media format - sh.itjust.works

I recently tried to join Mastodon, and like Twitter before it, I don’t understand the premise. You follow individuals instead of topics, and if you try to follow hashtags they change on a whim all the time so you’re unlikely to get relevant posts. Am I missing something, or is the purpose just to shout your opinions into the void? Could any Twitter/Mastodon users explain it to me like I’m 4?

Open Source Hardware Recommendations - sh.itjust.works

Does anyone have strong opinions on open source hardware? I’m finally at a point where I need to upgrade my laptop. The Framework 16 pre-order is tempting. It’s a fascinating project. Even if it comes at premium due to the small scale of their operation, I’m happy to support the cause. Alternatively, Sytem76/Clevo hardware has interested me for a long time (coreboot ftw). Based on the documentation current gens are super easy to repair. Any thoughts are appreciated!
