@rjj I guess I just have to turn off notifications for Flighty. Something I generally only have to do for shitty apps 😢

@rjj "gotta play" is doing a lot of heavy listing there 🫤

And even if that were an argument, than only makes sense in a zero sum game. As it stands, Apple (and even your direct competitors) abusing notifications for marketing has no effect on your business.

@rjj Apple notoriously violates their own guidelines 😬
@rjj and now another one 😬🤦‍♂️

@rjj wrong question.

The "company decides they should send this alert" is everything that's wrong about software these days.

Software should serve the user, not the company. Interrupting a user's day because the company decided they should send an alert is user-hostile.

Perfectly articulated in this amazing article:

We used to use software; now software started to use us

@rjj just got this again, man.

This is unequivocal marketing spam 😢

@rjj you're free to disagree, of course.

Thanks for the civil conversation. Flighty is truly the best 💕

@rjj @atpfm "need to". How do you figure?

Take off your product owner hat, and don your user hat.

No one wants this. It's noise and irritating. If someone unsubscribed, it's because they don't need those features now. No use in pestering them.

@rjj @rjj @atpfm I don't fly often enough to carry a subscription perpetually. So every time I fly, I subscribe to Weekly, and cancel right away. Essentially paying for a single round trip.

But then I get a pushy notification that my subscription is about to expire, and I'm gonna lose access to Flighty Pro features 😬
