I'm really hoping you don't need me to tell you that using machine learning ("AI") systems to identify potential targets and then to suggest that they be targeted when at home with their family members, including children, is one of the most abhorrent, unethical, inhumane things I've ever seen. There is absolutely no excuse for developing these systems. Technology is never neutral. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/03/israel-gaza-ai-database-hamas-airstrikes

We are starting "Works in Progress" talks for 2024 as part of ACM SIGCAS.

We are adding a few new things to the program where people can submit both long and short talks. We encourage researchers, practitioners, and students to submit talks.

If you are interested in presenting at a Work in Progress, please submit your talk using the form below:
https://forms.gle/vcBEoT8ioy1gHegY8

We will then gather responses and create a program for people to present their work.

SIGCAS Work In Progress - Interest to Present

SIGCAS periodically hosts Work In Progress (WIP) talks where researchers have the opportunity to present their work to the community and have dialogue with people that are interested in their work. If you are interested in presenting at a SIGCAS Work in Progress (WIP) session, please complete the form below. If you are an undergraduate or graduate student, we are interested in hearing about your work! All submissions have an option to submit a short talk that is 10 minutes, a longer talk that is 30 minutes, and a full talk that is 45 minutes. Some sessions may have a small talk in the beginning followed by a longer talk and some may just have a full talk.

(2/2) With that, I do enjoy going to conferences. It is an opportunity to meet people face to face and to network that in some ways can be challenging to do successfully virtually. But, making it a requirement in order to participate in our discipline does not make a whole lot of sense. Should ACM start to require conferences to support hybrid presentation models? Should @sigcas do this for the conferences it sponsors?
