@shepgo @Popehat @bgrinter Doesn’t look like they will ever “open the floodgates,” from what I can see they are going to put up a “public site” that those of us without invites can only look at, nothing about making accounts available.
@freemo @georgetakei First of all, with respect, not sure I buy your connection—I don’t know you except as an internet rando (as I would be to you). I know he looked and sounded better when he was younger (like all of us over a certain age), but he has more positive accomplishments than any other President in this century. Also, a collection of video clips can make anyone look like an idiot—it’s all about editing (and now, AI makes it even worse).
@grrrr_shark @georgetakei Reagan was an actor—he excelled at faking it, which is what impresses people.
@freemo @georgetakei Explain what you mean by “senile”? Do you know what that means? Yes, Biden looks old, and his voice is not as strong as it was when he was young. But that’s not what senility is, and he seems a lot more with it than most of the people claiming he’s “senile” (i.e. understands what is going on in the world, what is going on in Congress, how to navigate things like the Ukraine war and China, etc.)
@PopOfAfrica @ostrich @georgetakei Don’t confuse statistics that show likelihood for population at large vs. likelihood of particular individual. Statistics about life expectancy are based on people who die at every age, once someone has lived past “normal” life expectancy they are likely to have many years left, it’s a matter of individual condition rather than population characteristics.
@LadyDragonfly @georgetakei Do you work in retail? I don’t. Besides being shitty and low paid, it’s now (seems to have started during the pandemic) dangerous in many places. It’s easy for those of us not on the firing line to be “brave.”
@AskPippa @jaykuo @georgetakei That would only work if the Magic Kingdom were literally magic—if they could wave a wand and the whole thing goes “poof” and pops up in a different jurisdiction. Even a wealthy corporation like Disney can’t afford to tear down and rebuild (where?) something that big. But they are doing the right thing now, suing the state for violating their First Amendment rights.
@LouisIngenthron @Jeffrey_Smith @Katrags The problem is, in Florida the standard for determining whether a shooting is justified as self-defense is subjective—not that a reasonable person would fear immanent bodily harm in the situation, but that the individual shooter was afraid, however irrational his fear might have been. It makes it very difficult to bring charges.
@ruby @QasimRashid It’s also right wing framing that guns make people safer—this shows the right wing framing at war with itself.
@georgetakei Do we know for a fact that cable companies are willing to pay more for Fox News? Why should they? It’s not like Fox is going to stop needing to be on cable. I don’t see where Fox has the advantage in that negotiation.
