I have a list of naughty words that, if said too often, can land you on the naughty list.

I am adding “moist” to that list.

This is a majestic and enthralling piece of writing from my colleague Thomas Hale, who was whisked away under the cover of darkness by people in hazmat suits to spend 10 days in one of China's secret Covid detention centres. He never tested positive.

If you read one thing today, make it this. Here's a link that is free to read for the first 300 clicks –> https://enterprise-sharing.ft.com/redeem/02b7de01-0e12-483f-bccc-bb23b81840ca

What I learnt when I was ‘taken away’ to an island quarantine facility in the middle of the night

@jburnmurdoch Thanks for the article - chilling and well-recorded. Is Tnomab Hale on Mastodon? I'd love to follow his writing.
@MikeElgan The FoxConn protests are getting a lot of press, but people are resisting in smaller ways all over China. People in my neighborhood are starting to talk about mutual defense pacts to be allowed to quarantine in their homes if/when they test positive. It feels like something is changing.
@rbreich I start thankfulness from the inside and work my way out. I'm breathing, and when I pause and give thanks for this, each breath is sweet. The feeling of having a body is great. A sip of water is a delight. Clothes on my skin, decent air temperature around me, sounds that I can hear, the ability to see my precious family members - each is a source of joy. I have so much to be thankful for that I may never get to the big things.
