Russia: "It's not a crime if it's a crime you did in Ukraine."

Russian duma might soon cancel criminal responsibility for "crimes committed in the interests of Russian state on the occupied territories of Ukraine", Russian media report. Please, reread this, before claiming Russia cares about locals on the occupied territories.

I really wish Mastodon was better at QTs and notifications because those are main things keeping me from using this more often.
It was clear from the jump Musk didn’t understand the site he’d bought, but I’m still a bit surprised he doesn’t grasp that journalists are the main reason Twitter was more relevant than any number of other similar platforms. Can easily imagine looking back on this as a tipping point.

DJI makes a drone equipped with a speaker, and I’ve realized that it would be totally possible to synchronize hundreds of them in the sky wherever Elon Musk shows himself, booing in unison from terrible robot mouths.

Much to Ponder.

Dear policy-makers, experts, media, and academia abroad. I know that some of you struggle to imagine a Ukrainian victory, but we are on the way to it. It is better to prepare for a Russian defeat already now, instead of trying to explain why Ukraine can not or should not win.

Now seems like a good time to talk about how far-right extremists are using the Overton Window theory to force their ideas into the mainstream. The premise here is that today’s fringe ideas/beliefs can become tomorrow’s normal by shifting the boundaries of acceptable discourse. You do that by introducing people to more & more extreme ideas, so everything else seems reasonable in comparison.

eg, when “praising Hitler” becomes the comparison point, low-key bigotry suddenly doesn’t seem so bad. 1/
