I am a pathological optimist, except when I'm not. My spirit character is the interrobang‽
Happy #caturday!
Got the Fidlocks in, tried the Slide and V-lock, went Slide. Tore open the prototype, measured and rounded up my sizes and then sewed up a final one. Not my best sewing but I’m not used to seeing loops this tight. My only regret is how I looped the long end of the buckle as it feels “upside down” when grabbing it blind but otherwise it went together well, fits the same and the buckle rocks. Same printed PETG parts as before and they’re holding up really well, too.
I love my shoulder sling bag but while biking or even just a vigorous walk it slides around to my side or front. Started to design some sort of strap and discovered they’re already a thing. I followed the usual pattern and with a little 3D printing, 25mm nylon ribbon and hot glue I have a working prototype! Assuming the next week of wear testing goes well, I’ll pull the glue, measure, document and make a new one to be sewn and that uses Fidlock buckles instead for one-handed operation. #maker
I got a 3D scanner a while back and finally got around to printing one of the many reusable tracking dot shapes. However, just having them rattle around in a bag seemed wrong, so I made a case. It took 3 revisions to get it right but I’m happy with Mk3.
The real life saver here was remembering to do test prints while designing. The first test didn’t fit at all and I realized only 20 minutes of CAD in that I’d grabbed the wrong base profile: the default Dactyl-Manuform instead of my modified one. I also found it got in the way of my rubber feet. I also leveraged Fusion’s variables and joints heavily so I could tweak what I call “tilt” and “rotation”, which are realized using these two blocks that are not exported with the rest of the design.
Early 2019 I got really into the hand-wired split ergo keyboard space and ended up modifying the Dactyl-Manuform to my own needs. All these years later is has remained my endgame through upgrading the keyboard itself instead of replacing it. Most recently I decided it needed a better angle to help finger reach and wrist position, so I made a base!
Many thanks to the #beer mongers at my local market, this recommendation is delicious! #BeersofMastodon
