This Red Tailed hawk was lil Ms.Sassypants while in care.
As soon as I opened the box flaps to let her fly to freedom, she's all of a sudden like, "nuh uh, ermagerd, big scary world!"
I sat with her for 30 minutes until she finally got the courage to step out and fly straight up to a nearby tree.
Notice her USFWS band.
Fair winds and following seas to her! I hope she finds a mate this year and they raise little red tails to terrorize the park.
Why oh why oh why would you wait FOUR DAYS to contact a wildlife rehabber with a hawk on the ground in your backyard?
The finder fed it pigeon and rat remains.
Humans make my head hurt. I transported it to the rehabber. The prognosis is guarded. This hawk has a bloody abrasion on the right leg, from the hock to the talons. It's emaciated.
