The pinko commie in me also points out that I might be a dogshit programmer but I do know my focus on “how do we prove this works in a repeatable way” has value, even as my peers bring themselves to orgasm over “agentic coding”, “I can run the debugger in production”, “who needs IDE’s”, and “I will take your shit and claim it’s mine”.
The pinko commie in me thinks it’s wild that a group of people who think they are rebellious visionaries are adopting the tools of their oppressors and working hard to turn themselves into easily-replaced cogs in a machine.

popped into LinkedIn real quick before bed. Recommended post AI blah blah imagine the one true programming made for AI yada yada closes with "Less learning, more doing."

What kind of a fucking motto is that?

Four words describing how we got into this mess in the first place.

Brought to you by the same innovative mindset that thinks targeted advertising means "sell you four more stoves."

Once more, like clockwork, someone crept into my comments on LinkedIn and posted:

“The reality is simple: if you choose not to engage with these [agentic slop] tools, you will fall behind, and you will do so quickly.”

Even if this were true…so what?

If the tools are so amazing and magical and rapidly improving, just learn them later if you have to! In a couple of years even. Take a few weeks, get trained and up to speed, and boom you’re in.

“Falling behind” is a myth peddled by weak minds.

The economy is going so awesome, Jim Beam is cutting production by a third by shutting down a production facility for an entire year: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/12/22/dining/jim-beam-production-pause-whiskey-bourbon.html

You know what comment I got the last time I did a presentation at work, oh wow what a nice image that included a credit, you what comment every LLM image gets oh yeah look how bad the ai did now let's all talk about how much we need to use LLM because it's so good at the tedious stuff.

Yes! Visuals are part of the communication. Treating them as ignorable decoration completely misses the point and it’s not how they’re received by an audience

It’s always great to be in an All-Hands meeting and have leadership say “nobody wants to write PHP” while we continue to build key infrastructure with it.

I mean I could do this in Python too but the mistake is always “we built something and decided not to maintain it and now blame the language instead of ourselves”.

There are days where I wonder if my “I refuse to use AI to do my job” stance is on the same level as “I refuse to use Composer as a #php developer”

There are some plausible reasons for both stances. There is immense pressure to accept AI usage and Composer usage.

(I am a firm believer that Composer saved PHP)
