I am super-happy to be a small part of the team that made this happen 🎉💙

More (financially) accessible DrupalCons have only upsides, IMHO 🙌💰

On average, DrupalCon Chicago 2026 will be about $300 less expensive than DrupalCon Atlanta 2025 💸🏙️

@drupal is trying to grow their audience in the #fediverse

"We're actively building presence on Mastodon and Bluesky, platforms that align with our open-source values. We’ll give it 6 months of effort and see if we can grow audiences, and then re-assess.

"If either platform reaches 5,000 followers, we’ll promote them to being a priority platform. We’d love to see them become our preferred platforms."

Help us get Drupal off the birdsite!

Before I forget, I want to thank the Meghan Harrell and the @drupalassoc for putting their trust in me and the other members of the @drupalcon Atlanta Steering Committee.

If this DrupalCon felt different, it was because we (volunteer community members) were given the power to make decisions.

Steering Committee members: Bree Benesh, Fredric Mitchell, Jasmyne Epps, Nikki Flores, Rosie Gladden, Stephen Mustgrave, and myself.

Still buzzing from #DrupalCon Atlanta 2025—community, contribution, even scuba diving at the Georgia Aquarium. I shared reflections on sessions, parties, and big takeaways here: https://www.jamesmatthewsaunders.ai/post/reflections-on-drupalcon-atlanta-2025

Reflections on Drupalcon Atlanta 2025

DrupalCon Atlanta 2025, my 26th, was packed with energy, insight, and incredible community moments. From the first morning to the final wrap-up, this year’s gathering was a great reminder of what makes the Drupal community so unique—its openness, innovation, and genuine care for each other. I kicked things off with the Health Care Summit, where we explored how Drupal continues to evolve in the healthcare space. Special thanks to Michael Meyers, Chris Perry, Andy Waldrop, Jesse Meese, Jennifer S

“What we've experienced is a top-heavy pyramid—strong at the enterprise level but with an increasingly narrow base. This imbalance threatens long-term sustainability because it limits the influx of new talent, reduces community diversity, and creates fewer pathways for growth.”

@Camoa, about #drupal, in an excellent blog post.

Rebuilding Drupal's Ecosystem Pyramid: A Path to Sustainable Growth

This post introduces my "ecosystem pyramid" model for visualizing Drupal's sustainability challenges. I examine how Drupal's evolution has narrowed its user base, contrasting it with WordPress's approach. I highlight how Drupal CMS and IXP initiatives can rebuild the ecosystem's foundation by lowering entry barriers, especially in regions with differently-scaled pyramids. The key to long-term sustainability lies in rebuilding from the base up while strengthening the middle layers of our ecosystem.

A Drupal Couple

I was talking with some folks at DrupalCamp New Jersey about the lack of truly beginner-level sessions at most #drupal events.

I think there is a perception that any session proposed must be about something new and/or novel. I disagree.

If we want to grow the community, all #drupal events should actively recruit known speakers to present on beginner topics.

On Friday, I’ll be debuting a new #drupal presentation at @drupalcampnj titled “The modules of Drupal CMS” where I’ll be talking about some of the less-known contrib modules that are part of Drupal CMS.

The modules of Drupal CMS | DrupalCamp NJ

Drupal CMS includes a bunch of contributed modules that might be new (and useful!) on a great deal of non-Drupal CMS sites. In this session, we'll review a selection of these modules - including plenty of live demos!

After premiering a full day “Drupal CMS Preview” workshop at @fldrupalcamp last weekend, I’ll be using feedback to make a few minor changes and getting it ready for DrupalCamp NJ in a few weeks before the “big show” at @drupalcon Atlanta.
