30% of Nixon supporters still believed Nixon was innocent - even years after he resigned in disgrace. History shows time and time again — a solid 30% of humanity will always demonstrate they are incredibly dense, stupid, ignorant, incompetent, evil, etc.

Trying to track down a famous satirical quote (maybe attributed to Stalin?!), along the lines of, "If the people choose the wrong leader, the leader must elect a new people"
Not quite that (obvs) but close.
Anyone know what I'm thinking of?
ETA: it's "Would it not be simpler, if the government simply dissolved the people and elected another?" (Brecht)
Thanks, @timo21!
@whitequark ooh I do have a few feedback items to write up from my recent first-actually-useful-fpga-thing tinkering I did this weekend. all minor though, it was remarkably easy to learn.
main issue was the docs page drops me onto 0.6.0-beta-something but the latest release version is 0.5.8, and I couldn't find a link to that release's docs (I had to guess the URL). the code shown used the frequency conversion helper which didn't exist for me and that threw me until I realised the mismatch.
@pluralistic This is supremely funny.
In Germany his policies wouldn't even count as social democrat, not even close to actual socialism*.
* Where I live, we have some experience with that *actual* socialism. (Didn't work well, but not because it wasn't extremist enough...)
