Our brief on the AI and Data Act (AIDA) proposed by Canada submitted to Parliament.

The policy brief is mentioned in The Logic article, Digital rights advocates say Ottawa’s AI law still needs work—or a do-over: https://thelogic.co/news/digital-rights-advocates-say-ottawas-ai-law-still-needs-work-or-a-do-over/

Where I speak some advantages Signal has over the bigger richer rest of tech:

“We don’t have to be full of shit. We’re not a surveillance company. I’m not trying to pretend Facebook is good. I don’t have to toe a party line that is divorced from reality”

The encrypted messaging app is on the front lines of battles over encryption in India, Russia, and Iran.

since twitter seems to have banned me for who knows how long, if any mutuals (on here or twitter) want to dip their toe into bluesky, lemme know. I have a couple of invite codes.
wow ok I can't tweet or reply any more. twitter thinks I'm a bot, apparently? lolsob
If you missed my Sonoma State University Center for Ethics, Law, and Society seminar series talk "On Bullshit Engines: The Socioethical and Epistemic Status of GPTs and other 'AI.'" (or if you just want to dig into it again), the youtube link is now up:

(I wonder if other folks got it? like how to know without twitter and I feel like people maybe aren't as open about that anymore? I dunno. I didn't get it and I am relieved I didn't! I hope other folks avoided it also and are safe and well. #aoir2023)
(it seems I have avoided covid after my visit to Philly and #aoir2023! I was N95 masked at all times, even while presenting, and didn't go to any of the social events. met friends at open air restos, and one indoor dinner at friends' home (they are diligent maskers as well) with windows open and air purifiers. it is possible.)

I'm on a search committee for a Canada Research Chair position at #YorkUniversity, focusing on #indigenous data sovereignty:

If you have questions about the position, let me know!

(boosts appreciated)
