“Privacy’s Defender is an important and timely read, reminding us that privacy rights and civil liberties can be eroded by even minor government overreach,” Ben Rothke writes of Cindy Cohn’s new book. https://www.rsaconference.com/library/blog/bens-book-of-the-month-privacys-defender

EFF Presents: A Field Guide to Police Surveillance

Privacy isn’t just some sort of Harry Potter invisibility cloak that you throw on when you feel like it, EFF’s Cindy Cohn told @NickAEsp. It’s how people with less power can have protection from those with more power.

…and best of all, making a monthly donation to #EFF will get you a hardcover version of the book as a thank you… a win-win. i listened to the audiobook, which Cindy herself narrates.

I just finished Cindy Cohn’s great book, Privacy’s Defender - My Thirty Year Fight Against Digital Surveillance. I remember first learning of EFF almost three decades ago and, to be honest, the fact that John Perry Barlow helped create it, was all I needed to hear in order to support them. Learning all they have done for online privacy reminds me why I feel compelled to start monthly support of EFF and the great folks fighting for our online privacy. Cindy is my hero!

When wealth is passed off as merit, bad luck is seen as bad character. This is how ideologues justify punishing the sick and the poor. But poverty is neither a crime nor a character flaw. Stigmatise those who let people die, not those who struggle to live.

bestselling author, journalist and authoritarian scholar Sarah Kendzior frequently used the phrase “strip the US down and sell it for parts” to describe the trump’s kleptocratic motives. i first remember her saying this around 2017!

she was dismissed by mainstream media as too over the top because she spoke frankly. she was harassed by trump’s thugs and basically went into hiding (it seems) to protect her family. I miss her fire. she was spot fucking on.

FIFA is panicking: World Cup hotel cancellations are surging as global fans ditch the U.S., citing soaring costs, visa bonds, and Trump’s dictatorial behavior.

Turns out nobody wants to pay $1,000 a night just to experience an authoritarian simulation.

what good is any bar association that allows people like Todd Blanche, Pam Blondi, and others to continue making a mockery of the constitution and the rule of law?
