@jensclasen There is a typical snappy reply to someone you don‘t like: „Hat jemand eine Null gewählt?!?“ It could mean „Did someone elect an idiot?“ or „Did someone dial a zero?“
@outdooracademic @InternetlinguistiKonstanze
Been there. The resistance of some people to wear a mask is taking ridiculous forms. It would be so funny if it wouldn't be so sad!
@CzuloOliver I already knew about the replies issue. I don't like that although I understand why it's done this way. The hashtag issue is also interesting. Thanks for your help!
@kbusse Thanks for pointing out the difference between blocking and muting – that's an important difference. And also thanks for your assessment! That's helping a lot.

I have a question: scholar.social is currently blocking a lot of other servers. I don't know what that means exactly, yet. What are the most important consequences of this blocking policy?

Also, I am considering a server change to fediscience.org. Are there any (dis)advantages of fediscience.org vs. scholar.social except the blocking issue I mentioned above?

Thanks for your help!

Interviews for mass #media are a bit tricky. On the one hand, it‘s good to be be asked about your expertise (here: comprehensible legal #language) and promoting #linguistics to a large audience. On the other hand, you have to be able to bear funny stuff like wishing a good a morning in (especially incomprehensible) #legalese. I‘d say the positives outweigh the negatives. In the end, it‘s also a good thing to take your work not TOO seriously, right?

@rstats people! Could you please help me find a solution to this problem I have just posted on StackOverflow?

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/74364357/get-codes-for-lowered-forms-in-the-same-data-table-faster-implementation-wanted

It's about data.table and a faster implementation of a specific problem. Reproducible example is given. Thank you all so much!

Get codes for lowered forms in the same data.table: Faster implementation wanted

I have a data.table x with approx. 2M rows and 2 columns: entry and code. entry contains character values that might be repeated elsewhere in entry in lowered form. Also, all-lower entries exist, t...

@ElenLeFoll @CzuloOliver At least it seems as if the network is getting modernized now. One can only hope that this indeed will change things in the near future!
@ElenLeFoll You are perfectly right. Especially, we should not blame or harass the employees of DB in the trains - I‘m seeing this far too often. Not so much in the typical „commuter trains“ I‘m taking most of the time.
