“Go tell your government to read our judgements,” said the Supreme Court to the Solicitor General of India on Friday. Justice RF Nariman was hearing the Enforcement Directorate’s plea challenging the order of the Delhi High Court granting bail to Congress leader DK Shivakumar. "Please read our dissenting judgment in Sabarimala. Our judgments are not to be played with. Tell your government that our judgments stand,” Justice Nariman said.

The five-judge Constitution Bench on Thursday in a 3:2 majority judgment referred the Sabarimala issue to a seven-judge Supreme Court bench, and posed seven questions for the larger bench to answer. The court said that matters that include interpretation of the Constitutional provisions that talk about the right to profess, practice and propagate religion should be heard by a larger bench.

The Supreme Court on Saturday pronounced its 1045-page judgment in the long drawn out Ayodhya dispute. The five-judge Constitution Bench, in a unanimous judgment, handed over the disputed land to the Hindu parties and ordered that alternate land in Ayodhya, measuring five acres, be given to the Muslim parties.

The verdict on the 20-year-old Ayodhya case is expected to be pronounced within the next 10 days, before the current Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi retires on November 17. The Ministry of Home Affairs has released an advisory to all the law and order machinery in the country, asking that proper security be in place ahead of the verdict.
