Wharton professor Ethan Mollick has an interesting piece on how easy it was for him to create an entirely-synthetic video of him lecturing, using AI text, voice, and video generation tools.

A quick and sobering guide to cloning yourself

It took me a few minutes to create a fake me giving a fake lecture.

@imreFitos

That was supposed to be private, but ah well. Good to see you still exist, sir.

@brion

Around 1987 I switched from vi to emacs for the infinite undo. Killer feature. Still works great. Never write elisp, although I kinda know lisp.

@imreFitos Dude! 😎

The holidays can be a really tough time. The advice I often heard was, "Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Help others. Get out of your head." It's perfectly fine advice, but unhelpful if the mere thought of interacting with people is overwhelming. Anyway, here's a thing I did one year that did help:

I bought a Cookie Monster costume, went to the airport, and waited at arrivals with a sign that said "COOKIE"

Didn't have to talk to anyone and boy did I get to watch people's faces light up.

@eugeneaz I'm not paying enough attention these days to know, sorry. Fundamentally I think we need much better tools than "resist indexing".
Folks, a reminder to fill out your profile *before* you start following folks, so those folks who know who you are, perchance to follow you in return.
I don't know if anyone who needs to hear this will hear it, but please don't remove your Mastodon, Linktree, or other social media links from your Twitter bio under the new policy. Take a stand for the open Internet and against walled gardens. Don't be dependent on one website, especially when you know that website is collapsing. If Twitter's going to ban you for doing so, it's not a platform worth using anyway.
@malwaretech @jonmasters the reactivity on display is exposing the levels of amateur hour this dude is. I was at RSA 2019 listening to Twitter executives explaining how trying to match content was impossible and how metadata signals were way less noisy and predictable. Which at the time, being 8 years into Bot detection as a career, already knew. How is this dude even. It’s fucking embarrassing to everyone’s reputation in the tech industry.
