@annejefferson @beebrookshire I read that article in the Post, too. Fascinating. Recalled having seen the same phenomenon when I traveled to Rome

@tofugolem I, too, sense the country is moving toward a boiling point.that will either return us to the moderate liberal path we knew in the latter 20th century, as intended by Founders, or will lead to the irreparable division of states with varying laws and disunity a common descriptor. Something like what we call the dark ages.

I'm having a hard time pledging allegiance to a flag.

@est I understand your frustration. People assume I am serious, too, when making a point humorously. I'm surrounded by people with poor senses of humor.
@debaoki I am really worried that the USA is taking a giant step backwards in giving air time to nut cases. Happening on the local level and happening of the national level. If not effectively stopped by a majority of clear thinkers, say goodbye to the USA and welcome a number of kingdoms with differing values across the former united country.
@Roddyb best of luck to you
@BruceMirken @mehdihasan I agree. Police abuse as well as racism are at issue.
@VICENews Watching #JimJordan on #MeetThePress . Is it Jordan who is an idiot providing no service to the USA, or is it the people of Ohio who re-elected him who are lacking in reason?
@rbreich Noting how extremists are angling for places on local and state positions, and how the People's House is being controlled by extremists, is there any organized and civil way for our nation to wrestle control back to a middle ground before an authoritarian regime takes hold... Permanently?
@JosephMeyer I fully understand Abbott being frustrated by so many crossing the border, and other northerly states do not have to deal with that. But the mature and responsible thing to do is ask other governors if they would help by receiving some migrants, share out the responsibility to provide care. But no, Abbott sends one-way without asking, sort of like bombing another state. Tantamount to an act of war.
@old_hippie @kims Seriously, might the
USA be coming to an end? Texas has wanted to secede, and its continual unbridled challenge to federal authority can only get worse, relenting only when fully independent. Other states can adopt the tactic -- just as we have seen individuals adopting the tactic of defying Congress. Might the USA be a nice idea whose time has come to an end? (Thanks to the Republican party.)
