I am a scholar of feminist philosophy, contemporary critical theory, and cultural studies, a media critic, and an educator. My research employs intersectional feminist philosophies to analyze the politics around representation of race, gender, and sexuality in various types of media and in public discourse.

We're still over here using Star Wars Day as an excuse to dig up more fascinating scholarship in CORE. Here's an article by Spencer Keralis examining the intersection of animal studies and affect in the Star Wars universe: https://hcommons.org/deposits/item/hc:27989/
It's Star Wars Day and in case you were wondering, yes, there's a ton of Star Wars-related scholarship in our repository. Like this conference presentation on narrative and ludic friction from Justin Wigard: https://hcommons.org/deposits/item/hc:38633/

ICYMI: My article, "Breaking Glass: Reclaiming Harley Quinn's Past to Determine Her Feminist Future," analyzing Mariko Tamaki & Steve Pugh's graphic novel is now available to read via the open access MAI: Journal of Feminism and Visual Culture https://maifeminism.com/harley-quinn-breaking-glass/

I also did a short piece for the UNT Comics Studies blog further developing one of the themes in Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass https://blogs.library.unt.edu/comics/2022/11/15/the-eyes-have-it-in-harley-quinn-breaking-glass/

Finally, I'll be talking again about HQ:BG this Friday at ICAF and will specifically be focusing on how drag culture can help us to throw off the misogyny in Harley's character history http://www.internationalcomicartsforum.org/2023-schedule.html

Breaking Glass: Reclaiming Harley Quinn's Past to Determine her Feminist Future

Harley Quinn's rise to becoming one of DC’s most popular and recognisable characters was hardly a feminist success story.
