Conservatism doesn't conserve anything except a particular demographic's unearned power.

Conservative contrariness appears arbitrary and absurd -- "no masks or vaccines ever, even for my pets!" -- but it is merely about rejecting the imposition of any obligation on that group no matter how trivial.

To that end, conservatism will always embrace violence and fascism if that demographic feels like it can't get its way through the usual institutions, which are already set up in its favor.

Seriously, why are programmers so addicted to the smell of their own farts?

I’m just going to say it on mastodon because I’m not here much and I don’t care. I say all of this as someone who’s made #javascript a big part of my life and future plans:

If you get all high and mighty about React devs not knowing VanillaJS, you’re being ridiculous. If you’re giving job interviews for a company that doesn’t use any frameworks or libraries, you can talk about JS skills. Otherwise, you’re just gatekeeping the least respected, easiest coding language. Get a life.

@JoParkerBear all the people in the “What People Are Saying” section are speakers or nonprofit leaders in an evangelical space.

Also, there are the two bad reviews on Google then a bunch of glowing ones. It’d be interesting if all the reviews are from states he can do business with. Other than that though, the lack of reviews is more concerning. Just very little proof.

I just realized that “speaking in tongues” in the New Testament is a meditation practice. I’m listening to “How to Change Your Mind” on audiobook, and the descriptions of effects of psychedelic, which can also be achieved through skilled meditation, sound very similar to descriptions of speaking in tongues. Meditation really ties together the evidence better than a lot of interpretations

That could raise the prospect of a “Lost Ancient Christian Meditation” which sounds juicy as a paper or a Dan Brown novel

The reffing has been terrible, but the Knicks rely too much on Josh Hart. #nba

I’m at the perfect point with #reactjs and #nextjs where I know a lot. I feel powerful. But I don’t quite know what I don’t know.

It’s a Dunning-Kruger bliss like I haven’t experienced in years. I don’t want it to end.

Bluesky is probably better than Mastodon because (I assume) it’s not people talking about Bluesky all the time.

One perk of having a poorly kept 80 year old house: Four to five doors that don’t work as intended. One door just wasn’t there. I replaced it… now it doesn’t work as intended.

You can find me sanding down door edges.

@mark Jesus is just absent from the lived theology of so many conservative Christians. I’ve finally moved to a more liberal church and it’s like I’m finally focusing on what Jesus focused on.

No way Jesus cares about work requirements for welfare.
