Is death to become corpses beneath the earth?

Since this mad war erupted, I feel as though we have died countless times, even before the earth finally closed its last doors over us. Death has never been confined to a body pierced by a bullet, nor to a soul swallowed by a shell, nor to a house collapsing and burying its inhabitants alive… it has always been far wider than that, and far more invisible.

Death has been slipping in quietly, without noise, when safety evaporates from around us, and when the faces that once resembled us and completed us begin to fall away. We lose them as we lose ourselves, little by little. They are not buried by soil alone; sorrow takes part in burying us all, until we become strangers to our own earliest features.

We have become bodies walking on the earth, carrying paths our limbs remember, while our souls lag behind somewhere we can no longer see. We wither in silence, and fade slowly, without even noticing the moment absence began to creep inside us.

I have lost so much… of my life, my spirit, my certainty that I am still me. I have become a being that continues to pass through days without truly touching life, as though I were only the remnants of someone who was once here.

And today, I feel that what remains of the fragile threads that hold me to this world is silently unraveling… as if everything inside me is approaching an edge that has no name.
