"an upbeat atmospheric science professor" -- theverge.com | sometimes it snows in April | Fort Collins, Colorado
Others have posted similar maps, but I wanted to see the numbers, and yes, the Weather Prediction Center forecast has several areas (shown in purple) where the rainfall in the next 3 days should exceed the average precipitation for an entire year. In Death Valley, close to 2 years' worth of rain.
The Weather Prediction Center's 7-day precipitation forecast shows spots with over 10.5" of rain in southern California. Which would be more than 10" above the average precipitation during the next week...
rained all evening, but cleared out in time to get the fireworks in! #cowx

impressive rain event associated with a mesoscale convective vortex overnight (and still ongoing!) in southwest Nebraska. A @CoCoRaHS observation of 7.47" through 7am, and that wasn't at the radar-indicated max location. Looked a lot like how we drew it up in our 2009 paper.
a brand new album, for 1990....

Saw some other academics discussing this and yep, same for me: ChatGPT thinks my most notable paper is not a paper that I wrote, and best I can tell is not a paper that exists. (There is no paper with those page numbers in MWR, and no paper by that title anywhere I can find.)
Fort Collins high temperature of 86°F today breaks the old daily record of 80, and becomes the earliest in the year it's been so warm. (Previous earliest 86+ was 88°F on April 21 in 1989; last year we got to 86 on April 22.) #cowx
