to all the managers/c-suite delighted with the idea of replacing all the workers by LLMs, remember: once you do, don't get surprised when your customers decide to cut the middle man and replace you and your company by some prompts. To those that believe they're so brilliant: don't underestimate an (inevitable) army of fully LLM created companies trying different combinations until they mop the floor with your Steve Jobs 2.0 complex by (evolutional) brute force
@lkundrak I got one for your list: being able to attend your favorite bands' concerts but having hearing loss that makes everything in a concert sound like unrecognizable loud noise, unless you manage to get earplugs just in the right position
@monsieuricon replace "maybe later" by "remind me in 15min" for extra nagging
@monsieuricon finally something useful out of this LLM hype: everyone can switch back to be direct to each other and you select the correct "translator" on your email client to match your taste
@corbet IMHO, I don't see the problem: lwn is for a (slowly growing) group that takes open source seriously and/or professionally. I very much doubt any lwn subscribers would exchange it for "AI" generated crap. They're not competition. Did lwn had a drop in subscriptions after this LLM fever started? If so, I'm willing to step up my subscription tier to help make sure you folks are around forever.
no matter how easy it is to type a password, with enough use you'll manage to screw it up so badly that you'll have to type it very slowly
@amydiehl @alice I'm fun at parties... I think. when I get invited to one I'll let you know :P
@amydiehl @alice I'm not defending it. Any kind of extra documentation asked will raise barriers. Even if you carry paperwork proving change it'll do exactly what they want: make it more difficult to vote for specific demographics. People forgetting to bring, not knowing, losing it, expired and so on. Just pointing out that first generation citizens (which I assume 'immigrants' meant there) aren't likely (again, not everyone) to be impacted as much.
@amydiehl @alice To be fair, immigrants that became citizens are very likely to have valid passports because of trips to visit friends and relatives
@airlied not even a for i in s u b; do echo $i >/proc/sysrq_trigger; sleep 5; done ?
