Though it's honestly heartbreaking to be back at this point again where science is under constant attack, I do love seeing that all the slogans from our signs at the March of Science in 2017 are now a regular feature of lab walls, and that advocacy is far more common in every day scientific spaces.

One standard for her, another for JD.

One of the reasons I'm so skeptical of AI getting shoved into everything is that it is not forward-looking, it's just reinforcing all of the bad systems and processes we already have. It's not just that I miss a past, pre-AI world (though I do), it's that when I think of a genuinely better future, it mostly involves ripping out the systems that AI is trying its hardest to perpetuate.

AI is not the future, it's the present, repeated endlessly.

Listen, it’s very simple: In Britain we use the metric system, except for beer and milk, which come in pints. But not plant milk — that comes in litres.

Oh, and distances are in miles. But only if they’re too far to walk — if you can walk it it’s in metres. If you’re driving then your fuel efficiency is in miles-per-gallon, but petrol is sold in litres.

Oh, and your height is in feet and inches. If you don’t care much about your weight it’s in stone (but not pounds — no-one can remember how many pounds are in a stone and it’s hard to read the little tick marks on analogue scales). If you do care about your weight then your digital scales tell you it in kilograms.

Oh, and if there’s a heatwave then tabloids will forecast a “100°F scorcher”. But if it’s cold then it’s an “arctic blast” with “widespread temperatures below 0°C”.

I hope this clears things up.

Remember when we all used to clap every night to thank doctors, nurses, scientists, and public health workers for saving lives?

Thanks to disinformation, people in these professions are now frequently threatened and attacked. There is no way society can keep functioning like this.

Haha! Can't believe it worked!

You never know how much you’ll miss government that sucks because of underfunding and bureaucratic ineptitude until you experience government that sucks because of intentional, self-serving malice.
Okay, now thinking we need to collapse the false vacuum and fire up a new universe with a MUCH SMALLER Planck scale in order to accommodate the tiny violin I'm going to be playing within the amended laws of physics

Tonight, please spare a thought to all our scientists and public health workers who have dedicated their careers to saving millions of lives.

Despite their amazing work they are constantly threatened due to politicization and the unfettered spread of misinformation.

It should not be like this 💔
