Yesterday morning in Rio Arriba county, New Mexico — an indigenous (Hopi / Akimel O'odham) father, artist, and climate activist named Jacob Johns was shot in the chest during a peaceful prayerful protest against the reinstallment of a statue of the colonist butcher, Juan de Oñate.
When a white supremacist shooter (in a fucking MAGA hat) charged toward the altar, Jacob bravely used his body to shield the women and children praying behind him. He was air lifted to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery for his injuries. The shooter is now in tribal police custody.
