@pluralistic To paraphrase the sage advice we have gotten consistently from @markhurst on his @WFMU radio show #Techtonic:

Immediately unplug any and all Alexa surveillance devices in your home, and take them directly to your local e-waste recycling facility. Do not throw them in the ocean, satisfying as that might be, because it would be bad for the ocean.

“I wanted to have less notes, more spaces. Space is resonant. I want to enjoy that resonance.”

Closing out 2022 with a glimpse of three murals by Magda Love, Al Diaz and Eduardo Kobra on the City-As-School wall in the West Village, NYC. Not to get too sentimental about it, but to me all three signify the hope we invest in future generations — a thought worth holding close, I think, as we leave this nutty year in the rearview. Here’s to 2023 showing us the way with love, trust, positive change and just a touch of light humor to stave off the ever-encroaching darkness. 🎶 #PowerToThePeople
Is anyone of the mind that Musk is doubling down on the huge shitshow over on the bird site just to goose engagements and generate headlines, no matter how bad? (“All publicity is good publicity.”) He’s a thin-skinned clown and an impossibly wealthy asshole in a high-end candy store, but he’s also weaponizing media in the exact same way Trump did to “rile the libs.”
One thing I love about living in NYC is the ever-present chance of encountering randomly cool glimpses of style and quirky individuality — especially in the cars people drive. I caught this vintage Ford Falcon (looks like a ’64 Sprint, if I’m not mistaken) on W 28th in Chelsea over the weekend. I half expected to see California plates on it! A rare bird indeed…
No idea who snapped it, but in the recent wake of all the 80th birthday nods to Jimi Hendrix, this image has quickly become one of my favorite candid shots. Basically captures his entire vibe of existential cool in a fleeting moment — and he’s not even holding a guitar.
