One of the unexpected joys of the fediverse over other places is the addition of weird domains appended on to everyone's usernames.

It makes the web feel like more than just four websites again.

It's both a signal of a smaller more intimate internet and also a larger and far more diverse internet at the same time!

@Psibreaker is proper support for content warnings!

I'm angry on behalf of people with less privilege, but I'm also angry on behalf of younger me, who would NEVER have coped with calendarising a reminder and finding a new building BUT COULD STILL LEARN LANGUAGES AND DESERVED A FUCKING CHANCE.

I dropped out of my Welsh course in Oxford 20 years ago because it changed location, and when I turned up at the old location someone who worked in the building denied the class had ever been there and was so nasty to me I cried.

-I was not capable of working out where the new building was.
- I was not capable of dealing with a person in authority speaking rudely to me.
-I WAS capable of learning Welsh.

Many, many people are lacking in high-level life skills BUT STILL ARE CAPABLE OF LEARNING AT A HIGH LEVEL, AND WE NEED TO STOP PUTTING UNNECESSARY BARRIERS IN THEIR WAY.

Today I have to submit my forms for the Welsh exams and I find it absolutely extraordinary that the only reason I'm (hopefully) enrolling on time is because I put the deadline in my calendar when they first told me about it in September, then set myself Google Calendar reminders.

There have been no reminders whatsoever from the centre, no help with enrolling.

Luckily they gave us exam enrolment forms when we started the course in September, and even more luckily, I filed mine in a findable place.

Today I have to:

*find a department I've never been to before
*hope someone's there
*hand in the forms I've dug out and filled in
* pay the exam enrolment fees, but I haven't been able to find out how much or how to pay, so I'll be bringing £50+ in cash plus a chequebook plus a bank card.
* hope there isn't anything else I'm supposed to do to enrol before this Friday's deadline.

People less privileged than me will really struggle with all these barriers. Hell, I'm struggling myself.
