iOS 17 new "StandBy" clock frame feature only works while charging. Do they want to drain our phones battery life as early as possible or what?

The most basic option is a clock on the left side and nothing on the right, both with a black background. With an OLED screen, I don’t think it will take very long to complete full charge.
