@atpfm DHH shares his thoughts on Apple in a new video. Largely aligns with the show’s sentiment, but still interesting to see him speak directly on camera. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mzDi8u3WMj0

@daringfireball every year WWDC feels like a celebration. This year, for various reasons, not so much. The invitation decline is just another sign something’s changed.
@krishna @daringfireball @gruber Thanks for that. That video instantly came to mind when Gruber mentioned those days. All I remember from that interview is a discussion about John’s “obsession” with being right or something along those lines.

@daringfireball try this: “Now that you can remember everything I’ve ever typed here, point out my top five blind spots”.

You will be amazed at the result (source: a Reddit post).

Why are democracies reeling? - Protect Democracy

To date, there’s no consensus explanation for what’s driving this process. But several theories have emerged to help explain why the commitment to democracy is weakening.

@daringfireball The same situation occurred in Israel between 2021 and 2023, when the "Government of Change" avoided passing legislation to prohibit individuals under criminal trial from serving as prime ministers. They feared such a move would appear "too political" and assumed Benjamin Netanyahu's political career was over. Look at Israel now, devastated on many fronts, while Bibi is ruining the democracy for his personal benefits
@daringfireball this comes from a company that is known for its commitment to care, craftsmanship, artistry and environmental consciousness. It's surprising that no one at the executive level killed this. This ad doesn't just deviate from Apple's typical message; it goes against principles the company stands for. It was clear to me this ad wouldn’t go well the minute I saw this.
