Why Peertube is important and internet users *should* use it whether how much or little the use of it is over Youtube - bookwormstory.social

Of course i’m not saying internet user have to. Or that it has to completely replace Youtube or other streaming services in its complete entirety. Here is why internet users should start using Peertube, no matter how much or less they use it than Youtube. Simply letting them know it exists is key. Peertube is essentially an interface with a varying amount of instanced hosted by volunteers that all build up the bigger Peertube federated service with all the videos. Unlike alternatives. it has the highest chance of other all other video user generated content services being around for years to come due to being federated. If Youtube shuts down good bye to alot of that years worth of content. If a peertube instance closes dont only a smaller portion of video would be lost, but that doesn’t close down the entire program because all the other instances in theory would still be feferated. It’s open source meaning less likely hood of seeing ads on or by videos. Donation are always encouraged to help fund the servers. But not required. Summary: 1. longer lasting due to being federated potentials even with less profits 2. Peertube is open source. 3. Donations are welcome but not required just to use the service.

It might seem too late, but this will be helpful for people stuck in ridiculous contracts to cancel and go internet exclusive. If you’re younger, in your 20s or even 30s, you would probably likely be rid of cable.

if you’re much older then that those are the people I think would really benefit from this, the older generations.

Sometimes these fees could cost as much as an entire billing session even if you hadn’t used it for that long of a period of time, (in the u.s)

One thing to add that I just found and looked into is that Peertube does seem to have a way to sort by license, atleast on sepia search, which is like a global search for most Peertube instance, though probally not every video gets featured on all instances ever made. So that seems to suggest even more that is is case by case basis whether it is legal to just go and download the videos freely.

My other concern is that not every video upload has a license submitted, those videos uploaded to a Peertube instance, that say that the license is ‘unknown’ it’s due to the uploader not deciding and that just complicates things further for whether it’s okay or not okay to download the video.

If we are going for this fediverse and opensource thing especially with video, legal use like this need to be looked into, simplified and more talked about so people can rest assured they are in the right legally. Even if the uploader might not be as likely do anything, it’s still an unknown license and that could leave people vulnerable especally in more creative cases especially when they reupload with little fair use to there aid.

Should it be legally acceptable for Peertube users to download videos simply for offline use for free?

I feel most peertube users would not care. But is it legal, or a chance that some one might sue?

Just to put this out there for those who probally didn’t read the article. YouTube does this 5 second delay thing, on purpose only if it detects a user using an adblocker if you don’t use the adblocker then Youtube will work as it normally would on that browser.

Whether it’s still a clunky experienceor the browser crashes really Is dependant on that browser and if it’s a good alternative browser.

In other words, ‘fix he delay by disabling the adblocker’, coming from Youtube themselves.

YouTube is blaming that Firefox delay people been talking about on adblockers.

This delay isn’t exclusive to Firefox, it’s in any browser where a user has enabled adblockers including in Chrome. Disable the adblocker nd this delay magically go away. This was done on purpose.

When I go on one instance there doesn’t seem to be a change of interface or even a special about from the maintainer. Is there anything behind the scenes that changes?

Gmail is an email service. Like the fediverse, email is federated. By changing your email provider, do you really lose anything? You can still contact your friends, contacts and even various customer suports. You also can reciebe emails from popular social media apps. If you degoogle from atleast one Google app, maybe Gmail could be the easiest and least life changing one. While, Youtube could easilly be one of the most difficult to change. Not like literally but emotionally. Like deep down you know you can find mostly all you might need on something like Peertube but not all the entertainment media like on Youtube. You will also become a social outcast if peertube is the only app you use. You might not understand channels people mention in day to day talk from youtube or references. If you use exclusively fediverse apps and sites, Chrome could be almost just as easy to replace as gmail, longterm. However If you use Youtube it won’t surprise me that Youtube downgrades your performance and user experience in what ever means neccesary on competing browsers.
