i feel bad for all the devs seeing WWDC this year, and for the first time though jaded cynical eyes. it’s not pretty.
i mean it’s for the best that people view the marketing of mega corporations with healthy skepticism, but losing your religion is never much fun.
just remember that even though it might not be as awesome as it once seemed, the hard working engineers and artists in the trenches are just like you and me and deserve every bit of praise you can muster.
> The problem isn’t that the fediverse isn’t viable. The problem isn’t that it’s “too complicated.” The problem is that the giants of Silicon Valley have spent 20 years convincing us that anything outside their control isn’t worth our time. I have been saying this for at least a decade and I shall scream it into the void for at least a decade to come but: the over-simplification of technical jargon, interfaces, and capabilities of end-user software and hardware have been a disaster for tech literacy of the 'general population' and have aided the creation of walled gardens more than the lack of open alternatives. @jensimmons not sure if you have any control over this but could you please look into the EXTREME battery use by Safari in the latest developer betas? (15.1 Sequoia)
I'm just doing some mild browsing with around 6 tabs open and streaming a show, energy impact into the 4 figures seems a bit extreme, no?
