Sixty years ago today, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Immigration Amendments Act of 1965, ending race and nationality bars on immigrant admissions. My forthcoming book analyzes this struggle and how it continues to play out today.
At first I laughed out loud. Then I realized Trump wants to put the last nail in the coffin of the American revolution. Maybe King Charles would make him Lord Donald, the Duke of Berghof.

Well, turn off the lights at the #BrokenPost (and on democracy) for its last great rational columnist, Jennifer Rubin, has left to found a new newsletter. Yes, Substack; I've subscribed nonetheless. A profound loss to incumbent, institutional journalism and a harbinger of journalism to come.

Given Trump’s pronouncements over the weekend, my 2018 OpEd in The Hill is timely again. #birthrightcitizenship https://thehill.com/opinion/immigration/398865-theres-no-place-like-home/
In 2018, I tangled with John Eastman on #birthrightcitizenship at a National Constitution Center town hall. The brilliant Jaya Ramji-Nogales was also on the panel. https://constitutioncenter.org/news-debate/podcasts/what-is-citizenship

Honored to be discussing the history of U.S. Asylum law on Seeking Asylum in the U.S. : Throughline. Podcast also features the wonderful Maria Christina Garcia.

"The constraints on a mass deportation operation are logistical more than legal. ... Resigning oneself in advance to a maximalist vision of mass deportation helps accomplish the same goal: making immigrants feel they have no choice but to leave the United States." A must-read from Dara Lind.

I clearly have mixed feelings that my 2020 JMHS article “More than a Wall: The Rise and Fall of the U.S. Asylum and Refugee Policy” is trending again. The table of ABCs of Trump policies of Abandoning, Blocking & Criminalizing asylum seekers is the reason. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/2331502420948847
