It became clear on stream last night that the struggles with the laptop were going to be bigger than I had anticipated. Games I thought were going to run fine were starting to crash and refuse to run.

Replacement hardware has been ordered and should hopefully arrive within a week. Going with a ROG NUC this time. I’m hoping that makes some of the capture card struggles go away. Or at least reduce the problem space. (No longer dealing with duplicated laptop display that’s not sure what it’s doing.)

Fortunately there’s not a lot of setup required on the device. And the configs needed for streaming are backed up and easily transferred. (Not sure if I can say the same about the streaming pc itself but we’re not dealing with that.)

At first I was hesitant to jump to replacing the probably failing laptop. But now I’ve found a small form factor piece of hardware that may be a good fit for me needs. So… maybe I do replace it?

I made a post on Bluesky talking about my laptop’s GPU and now people are replying telling me to repaste it. If I wanted to repaste things I wouldn’t have bought a laptop!
