I’m literally spending time I’d otherwise use to play console games to write code instead, on weekdays after a ton of work, just because I’m actually enjoying it again!
If you want to get someone you know into programming, the setup is incredibly important, and needs to feel as pleasurable as a game they enjoy
A reflection in the little over month of working on a side project: your programming setup (tools, computer) makes a huge difference in how pleasurable you find it, and is an underrated reason to actually take out time for it.
For me, most of the credit goes to switching from a 2015 MBP to a M1 MBP over the holidays. The snappiness is night and day.
Some credit also goes to web frameworks getting a lot better (toying with nextjs, previously only wrote Android code that took forever to build)
Question: when is the last time Netflix recommended something to watch that you weren't sure about but absolutely loved?
I'll start with two personal egs:
- Halt and Catch Fire
- Extraordinary Attorney Woo
I was particularly skeptical about the latter, and assumed I was seeing it just because I watched The Lincoln Lawyer and the Algos thought they were similar. Was convinced by other folks and _loved_ it, great intro to K-shows for me.
